Corporate giant, Demerara Distillers Limited, under its international brand Pepsi, has renewed its cricket sponsorship of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY& SC) Under- 19 team for the seventh year in succession.
The company injected $ 220,000 and will cover the cost of cricket balls, gear, and meals during matches, umpires’ fees, and transportation.
The under- 19 team, under the sponsorship of Pepsi, has won the Berbice championship three times and are currently the back-to- back defending champions of Berbice after winning the Berbice Cricket Board’s Spready’s under- 19 tournament in 2008 and 2009.
Dominic Rickie from the team represented Guyana at the under- 19 level in 2010; Shawn Perreira and Parmanand Narine the national under- 15 team, while Perreira, Loyden Lewis, and Shailendra Shameer were in the national under- 17 team.
Shemaine Campbell also represented Guyana and the West Indies at the female level and was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the West Indies Cricket Board women’s tournament.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club under- 19 team has produced nineteen national junior cricketers including Assad Fudadin, Royston Crandon, Esaun Crandon, Delbert Hicks, and Khemraj Mahadeo over the years.
Captain of the team, Dominic Rickie, expressed gratitude to Pepsi for their continued confidence in him and his team mates and pledged that the members of the Pepsi team will once again be the Berbice under- 19 champions.
He also committed the team to uphold the high standards it has set in the past and to continue using the proven formula of hard work, dedication, and discipline.
Pepsi and DDL investment, Rickie stated, has assisted players like himself to develop, and for this they were very grateful.
Ms. Alicia Anderson of DDL stated that her company and Pepsi were pleased to be associated with the Rose Hall Town Pepsi team and were satisfied with their performances over the years.
Ms. Anderson noted that Pepsi was always pleased to be associated with activities that kept youths away from social ills. She also challenged the members of the team to maintain their high performances and to strive to retain their Berbice under- 19 championship.
