The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) said it has gazetted the lists of candidates which were submitted by the five political parties to contest the 2011 general and regional elections.

The parties are namely, A Partner for National Unity (APNU), Alliance For Change (AFC), People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), and The United Force (TUF). Also published in the Gazette was the list of candidates submitted by the East Berbice Development Association (EBDA) to contest the regional election in District Six. Additionally, GECOM said a team led by Assistant Chief Election Officer, Keith Lowenfield met on Thursday, November 3 with members of the Aircraft Owners Association of Guyana (OAG) headed by president of the association, Michael Correia.

The meeting was held at the behest of GECOM, to emphasise the need for the guaranteed availability of aircrafts to facilitate flights to Regions One, Seven, Eight, and Nine for the posting of the official List of Electors for the 2011 general and regional elections; deliver sensitive election materials before Elections Day and retrieve sensitive election materials after Elections Day.

The primary outcome of the meeting was the assurance given by the AOAG that aircrafts would be made available to GECOM upon request towards ensuring that the associated tasks are implemented in an efficient manner.
