Over 100 benefit from “Remigrants Scheme” project

Despite being given short notice about the “One Stop Shop”, over one hundred remigrants turned up at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara on Saturday to receive their house lots. The distribution was done amid the Housing Ministry’s International Building Expo.
This is the first phase of the allocation process under government’s new “Remigrants Scheme” project. The programme targets overseas-based Guyanese who are eager to return home and own their homes. Initially, the ministry issued 300 house lots to applicants who have applied online and over a hundred showed to pay down for their lands.  The remaining 200 persons who could not have make it to Guyana for this “One Stop Shop”; can do so in August or October, when two more such exercises are held.
During this process at the National Stadium, persons had to pick out their lots, and after making their payments, they were issued with their agreements of sale.
Almost the entire transaction was done there except for the title, which has to be uplifted from the Housing Ministry’s office.
Andre Ally, one of the organisers of the one stop shop said that he is very surprised and heartened at the turn out. “We are just glad to provide this service to these re-migrants.”
He noted that there are 550 house lots available and over 300 have been allocated to Guyanese overseas who have expressed an interest to return home.
Ally said the first scheme for the project will be developed at Providence, East Bank Demerara, adding that the scheme “is just two Kilometres from the main road and is located in a very prime spot where we’re doing all of our building developments on the East Bank of Demerara”.
He further disclosed that Providence is a “prime spot” for the remigrants, pointing out that that other schemes in the area will also be developed.
Overseas- based Guyanese can get more information on the “Remigrants Scheme” project at www.chpa.gov.gy and signed up for an account after which they can apply for the house lot by filling up the form provided.
