OLPF donates 12 laptops to Bernice Mansell Foundation

Head of the foundation Bernice Mansell after receiving the laptops said the organisation has 10 laptops, four of which are functional, hence the need for additional systems. She expressed her appreciation for the OLPF’s quick response and asked for training to be provided to teach the youths.
The organisation also partners with the Education Ministry through its annual GUYAID Essay Competition, which is held during Education Month. The essay competition is used as a vehicle to promote literacy among Guyanese children.
OLPF Public Relations Officer Stacy Carmichael-James indicated that a trainer will be made available to work with the youths for six weeks. Recently, the OLPF Secretariat undertook a similar venture which saw the organisation collaborating with the newly-established Roraima Learning Trust (RLT), which was conceptualised and launched to leverage opportunities of applying micro-learning techniques in Guyanese schools.
Through the OLPF 90,000 Guyanese families are expected to benefit from free laptops which will be used as a means of enhancing family-based learning and economic empowerment while contributing to the building of a knowledge-based society. To date, more than 15,000 laptops have been distributed across the country along with the requisite training, verification and distribution.
