The NEW Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation (New GPC) on Wednesday distributed several bursary awards to its employees’ children who would have written the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examinations.
Among those in attendance at this ceremony were the awardees, summer attachments of the company, staff members, and representatives from the Guyana Labour Union (GLU) and the Clerical and Commercial Workers Union (CCWU).
The six bursary awardees, Narendra Maraj, Menakshi Singh, Kelly Singh, Darryle David, Reshma Seemangal and Alaycie Datson, were also given school supplies.
Meanwhile, recognition was also given to three work study students, Shaqueon Scott, Shelleeza Mohamad and Neveash Kumar.
Company Secretary Zulfikar Ally charged the students to work towards excellence as he renewed the company’s commitment towards assisting the students in their academics.
“The NEW GPC Inc once again is proud to continue this tradition of handing out bursary awards to students and children of our employees,” said Ally.
“We have been doing this for a very long time, and we will continue to do this as long as we have bright young kids who continue to excel. Your whole future is ahead of you, and we would like to support you in your quest to become whatever you would like to be,” he said to the students.
General Secretary of the Guyana Labour Union, Carvil Duncan, in his remarks, told the young students, “It is not where you are that is important, but where you want to be. Everything you want to achieve in life you’ll have to work for it.”
He noted that for all students to excel, preparations must be made from the time they commence their academic journey.
“You must programme yourselves from now for what you want to become in the next ten, fifteen years; and once you programme your thoughts and you are conscious of what you want to become, then the responsibility lies with you.”
Additionally, Jonathan Motieram of Covent Garden Secondary was also named the top bursary graduate for securing eight subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination.
