N.Y.- based international recording artiste thrills Guyanese audience

International Recording artiste, Guyanese born, Geeta Bisram, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’s contestant and member of the famed Suresh Wadkar Ajvasan Academy of Music, Purnash Durgaprashad, along with Leader of the Angels Caribbean Entertainment Group out of New York, USA, Vinod Bisram, and other members of the Group thrilled the audience in a historic single concert “Shyaam-e-Mehfil (An Evening of Ghazals)” on the lawns of the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex on April 7 last. The Program was part of the activities for Guyana’s hosting of the 10th International Qaseeda Competition and was hosted by The Muslim Youth League of Guyana and the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company.

Under the bright stadium floodlights, the Anna Catherina Islamic complex looked its best, as hundreds of Guyanese of all religions braved the inclement weather to listen to Geeta and Purnash voices resounding into the air on the lawns of the Complex, with the décor for such an international event. They were backed by Ustad Nazim Bacchus out of New York also and Angel’s member, Trinidad & Tobago born, Dexter Mohamed.

Geeta, a Guyanese born, has performed alongside several legendary Indian singers and has several CDs to her credit including her famous Qaseeda CD, said to be among the best renditions ever. But the voice of Purnash, another Guyanese born singer, took the patrons by storm as this young talented singer wowed the audience with his renditions of qaseedas, ghazals and filmi songs. He was for the first time ever gracing the stage in Guyana in this historic “Shyaam-e-Mehfil”.
