Well known Indo-Caribbean New York TV personality Ms. Wendy Khan, formerly of Guyana, impressed the hosts of the Miss India SAPNA International beauty pageant and cultural show recently held in Delaware.
The program was supported by the office of the Governor of the state and patronized by its representatives.
The Governor Mr. Jack Markell thanked the organizers of SAPNA for holding the mega cultural event in that state.
This was the first time a major Indian cultural show was held in the state of Delaware which is home to a small number of Guyanese who interact and integrate with the larger South Asian Indian community.
The cultural event was held at the Grand Opera House where President Obama recently hosted a fundraiser for his re-election campaign. The SAPNA pageant showcased some of the finest South Asian culture and talent in the mid-Atlantic coast states. Also, there was South Asian karaoke to entertain the audience.
The contestants of the pageant entertained the packed ballroom of guests from the Governor’s office. Governor Markell, who cancelled his guest appearance at the show at the last minute, sent a note congratulating AEG International and Jewel of India restaurant for their efforts in organising and marketing the celebration of South Asian culture state-wide.
In a note, the Governor stated, “the event promotes the ever-expanding South Asian community, and recognizes its contributions to the American society at large”. The Governor was represented by his Chief Strategist, Brian Selander, who applauded the organizers and participants for a magnificent show.
Mr. Selander interacted with Ms. Khan showering accolades on her beauty and thanked her for her guest appearance at the show. Ms. Khan, who hosts a Guyana program on television in New York, was invited to make a guest appearance at the pageant by the organizers.
Mr. Selander also serenaded Ms. Khan for her guest appearance and conducted an interview with the vivacious N.Y. beauty. Ms. Khan was rated the best host of an Indo-Caribbean TV show two years in a row in New York.
