More foreign investments means more job opportunities for locals

Dear Editor,

Another major company is expected to start operations in Guyana soon and this means well for the country as, in addition to the country gaining more revenues, hundreds of jobs will be created and in effect the ordinary people will benefit. The company – Reunion Manganese Incorporated – is expected to install a pilot plant at its Matthews Ridge, North West District site for production and shipment of commercial manganese within months.

The markets which the shipments will target will test and give feedback to the company. It is expected that the final feasibility study will be filed for approval, making way for actual construction of the plant. It was disclosed that construction will commence by August and would be completed in 14 months. Full commercial operations are expected to commence by the fourth quarter of 2014.

In addition to creating jobs, the surrounding communities in which the project will be operating will see developments in various areas.

Editor, new investments results in many positives for a country and this is why the authorities must step up their efforts to get more companies to come here. The government should not be daunted by what has happened in the parliament over the past few days where the opposition members voted against several projects for which the government had already carried out rigorous consultations and even got a major part of the funding already. The citizens will judge them when the time comes. It is unfortunate though, that at the end of the day, it is the ordinary people, including those who voted for them (AFC and APNU) will suffer.

Yours sincerely,

R Charles
