Miss World Guyana, Veena Mookram, last Friday hosted in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) a health fair and fitness walk that attracted a wide cross section of persons from various communities within the region.
The fitness walk preceding the start of the health fair was held from the Anna Regina Market to the Anna Regina Car Park, and it was led by Regional Vice Chairperson Nandranie Coonjah and Mookram. During the walk, the Queen used the opportunity to spread awareness on her platform, “Prevention of Diabetes through Fitness and Exercise”.
According to coordinator of the walk, Joe Mookram, the exercise was sponsored by the National Milling Company of Guyana (Namilco) and the Region Two RDC; and the health fair was focused on spreading awareness of the chronic disease of Diabetes through talks and various programmes. Persons were also tested for hypertension.
In an interview, the Queen extended her gratitude to the Region Two RDC, Namilco, and all those who made the walk successful. She said her next awareness walk would be staged in Berbice.
She disclosed that her aim is to establish a fitness park within the Diamond/Grove area. That park would be built by Mookram and later handed over to the NDC for community use.
Presently conducting training in public speaking, Miss Mookram said she is confident she would make Guyana proud. Veena Mookram was crowned Miss World Guyana on June 25, and is expected to leave for China on October 14. The Miss World pageant will be held on November 18. (Indrawattie Natram)
