Minibus driver who asked passenger to “come out” of bus lands in Court

A bus driver found himself before the courts after he reportedly asked a passenger to disembark his minibus.
Christopher Singh, 44, a minibus driver who resides on the West Bank of Demerara (WBD), admitted that on May 24, 2018 at the Route 42 Bus Park, he disturbed the public by not allowing Everton McCullen to travel in his vehicle.
In defending himself, Singh noted that the Virtual Complainant entered the bus with a large object that blocked the entrance.
He explained to Magistrate Judy Latchman that he requested that McCullen move, but he refused causing the other passengers to walk out of his minibus.
Singh further explained that a heated argument ensued and the two eventually ended up at a Police Outpost where the matter was reported.
The defendant told the court that he was unaware as to why he was being charged when he was not in the wrong. A not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf following his explanation.
However, in McCullen’s version of the incident, he requested a seat in the bus, but the bus driver refused even though he offered to pay for the seat.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris had no objections to bail, but asked that it be substantial since the defendant was unwilling to attend court. Bail was granted in the sum of G$10,000.
Singh is expected to make his second court appearance on August 3, 2018 before Magistrate Annette Singh.
