An early morning accident on Second Avenue, Bartica on Wednesday has left one man dead and another critical after the car in which they were travelling slammed into a parked truck.

The accident occurred about 02:35h. Dead is 24-year-old Cleveland Jordon, a miner of Sixth Avenue, Bartica, while the injured man is known as Chavez Garcia. According to information received, Jordon, who was driving, was reportedly speeding and in the vicinity of Joe Hill Shop in Second Avenue when the accident occurred.
Jordon reportedly died on the spot but was pronounced dead on arrival at Bartica Hospital; while Garcia was admitted. Police in a release said that Jordon was driving his motor car PKK 5278 along the road way when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the rear of the lorry.
Attempts to contact the relatives of the dead man proved futile.
However, a Bartica resident told Guyana Times International that when he woke up on Wednesday morning, he saw the man’s mother and sister in tears and upon enquiring, he found out that the young man died in an accident. The resident described Jordon as a hard worker who had recently returned from the interior.
