Georgetown Magistrate Faith McGusty on Monday remanded 36-year-old Shawn Cornelius after he was charged for allegedly raping a nine-year-old while being intoxicated.
The accused, a miner, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that he, during the month of September 2018, engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16.
Cornelius, who was unrepresented, was remanded to prison and was expected to make his next court appearance at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on January 7, 2019.
