Matthias, Persaud to attend CFU/CONCACAF Congress

Matthias, who was recently elected president of the GFF at the annual Ordinary Congress at the Pegasus Hotel, will be accompanied by vice president Persaud to the Caribbean Football Union/CONCACAF Congress, which is set to commence this week in Panama.
According to Matthias, he and Persaud will be briefed by officials from world governing body, FIFA, and CONCACAF on what is expected of them in their new roles as the leaders of football in Guyana.
Matthias said he is looking forward to meeting with those officials, since he and Persaud will use the opportunity to share their vision for Guyana’s football.
The congress will run until Friday, with the pair set to return to Guyana on Saturday. In the battle for presidency last Friday, three rounds of voting were required to decide a winner, as Alfred King was knocked out in a tight and tense second round that went five, six and six in favour of King, Aubrey Major and Matthias.
However, the third round was won by a landslide as Matthias emerged with an 11-6 win over Major, much to the celebrations of his support cast waiting in the lobby of the international hotel. Matthias will now serve a two-year term before contesting re-election for the post in 2015.
Three vice president posts were contested at the election with Persaud, Collie Hercules and Raulston Adams filling those slots.
The election was observed by officials from FIFA and CONCACAF and supervised by an Electoral Committee that was appointed by the GFF.
