Massive turnout expected for “Drag Warz 2”

The smoke and tyre burn will return to the tracks at the South Dakota Circuit come October 2 for the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) International Meet “Drag Warz 2” and President of the GMR&SC Raj Boodhoo is expecting a massive crowd turnout.

Speaking with Guyana Times International Sport Boodhoo said, “The stage is set for a massage turnout, we won in Guyana when the Surinamese came and we went over to Suriname and won three of the major titles and now we are here; for sure we will have fantastic racing”.

Boodhoo, who himself is an avid drag racing fan revealed that preparations are in top gear for this meet and more so, they will be improved seating arrangements for the spectators.

“We are actually doing pretty good preparing for the drags race, we will have better viewing for spectators by installing mounds”, the GMR&SC President said.

He added, “Fans follow the drag racing a lot in Guyana, it has its own fans who like the trills of the short races and then there are those who like circuit racing”.

The drag racing phenomenon has gripped the attention of many Guyanese fans and the President wants to increase the amount of meets per year.

“We are hoping we can have three to four drags per year, we are looking to update the track and get a launch pad”, the Boodhoo stated.

Despite the Surinamese will not be venturing to these shores for this meet, Boodhoo posited that “the local racers are still hyped and eager to showcase the capability of their machines”.

The Daby siblings Rondel and Peter, Sanjay Persaud, Anand Ramchand and Shawn Persaud will be among the competitors aiming to walk away with bragging rights for the season-end meet.

In May, at South Dakota, Azurdeen Mohammed stole the show in his “Godzilla” Nissan Skyline GTR. Mohamed recorded the fastest time of the day, dipping below the nine second barrier in the A-class unlimited category.

Among the categories to be contested on the quarter-mile strip are the F Class – 14 Seconds Bracket, E Class – 13 Seconds Bracket, D Class – 12 Seconds Bracket, C Class – 11 Seconds Bracket, B Class – 10 Seconds Bracket, A Class – 9 and 8 Seconds Bracket. The Porta Tree Timing System which is equipped with specialized starting lights and allows quarter mile speeds to be recorded will be used during the day’s proceedings.
