Marudi Creek

Resort provides rustic charm and lots of fun
Located on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, Marudi Creek provides a relaxing atmosphere, cool black water for a refreshing swim, and is a spacious recreational facility for the entire family.
The Marudi Creek resort, owned by Martha and her husband Paul Dhanraj, is situated on the left and approximately five minutes up the highway. It takes another five minutes along the very sandy trail to reach the creek.
After coming off the trail, visitor immediately enter the facility, which has a rustic charm to it. The expansive land is dotted with troolie-roofed benabs. It is an open air accommodation that provides a pristine, relaxing atmosphere. There are changing rooms available on site, as well as ample parking space.
The resort has also been Martha and Paul’s home since 1989.
Martha, originally from Honduras, came to Guyana seeking solitary peace but could not find it where she was living on the East Coast. She and her husband found out about the land, now Marudi Creek and their permanent home, and later secured a lease for it.
The couple started a poultry farm on the wide lands, but after that didn’t work out as they had hoped, they decided in 1995 to open their home to tourists for a small fee. Since then, persons have been flocking to the facility for its tranquility and scenic nature.
It once offered overnight accommodation but due to visitors’ reckless use of the property and inconsiderate playing of loud music, the owners decided to open the facility on weekends only.
Patrons leave by 6pm and adhere to rules; keeping in mind they share Martha and Paul’s home for the day.
The Dhanraj family pet, a grey-winged trumpeter, will greet you and even deign to give you a pedicure – she loves picking at toe nails. The sweet little hunched, chicken-like creature has a very velvety head and grey wings, and lends itself to being coddled and carried.
The Dhanraj’s Marudi Creek getaway provides the perfect weekend answer to the hustle and bustle of weekday life.
