A 19-year-old man tragically lost his life early Tuesday morning, after being stabbed by his brother during a row over clothing.
Sherwin Kennedy of A Field Sophia was allegedly stabbed by his 18-yearold brother, Leroy Kennedy on Tuesday at Lama Canal (Blacka) at the around 10: 00h. Sherwin’s girlfriend, Lisa Franker, who witnessed his murder, told the media that the row was over the use of a pair of jeans.
According to Franker, a scuffle ensued between the two brothers, which led to Leroy hurling a knife at his brother. She explained that based on the force with which the knife was thrown, it struck Sherwin ‘directly at his heart’. The young woman said Sherwin then ran outside holding his chest, while blood was spilling from his body.
“I run behind he while he was running to his mother and he fell to the floor. After that he mother and brother-in-law hustle to pick him up and put him in a car to bring him to the hospital. I was home hustling to put on clothes to come out and all I hear, my grandmother-in-law start to cry and they shouted that Sherwin is dead,” she said tearfully.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital. The mother of both the deceased and the accused, Joan Kennedy, said she still cannot come to grips with the fact that her son is dead and more so, that his brother is the person responsible. “What more I could do, I can’t lose two sons at once… I just have to live with it now… but the kind of love I had for my son will take a time to build back”. Kennedy admitted that both of her sons would usually quarrel with each other, but never to the extent where one would harm the other.
She explained what she remembered happened during the entire incident.
Kennedy said, “By the time I hustle down the step, I see my son running holding he stomach. He ran into my arms and he said mummy ‘ah dead’ and I said to him no son you aint dead, you wouldn’t dead.” Relatives and friends crowded the hospital and expressed their disappointment with what took place between the two brothers.
Most of them described Sherwin as a very willing and kind individual who had high respect for family and friends.
