A 38-year-old man, was on Wednesday sentenced to three years imprisonment at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for robbing a disable septuagenarian.
Michael Whyte, appeared before Magistrate faith and pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
The charge stated that on September 27, 2019 at Robb Street, Georgetown, he robbed Compton Cater of G$28,000 cash.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummell stated that on the day in question, at around 07:00 hrs, the victim was in his wheelchair heading west along Robb Street to conduct business, when the defendant who was walking his pit bull dog.
It was then the defendant, loose the animal, which started to attack the elderly man. The pensioner fell out his wheelchair, after being attacked by the dog, and Whyte went into his pocket and relieved him of his cash and pension book.
Hence, an alarm was raised and the defendant was apprehended by good Samaritans, who handed the defendant over to Brickdam Police Station.
The court heard while at the station, the defendant was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed him.
The prosecutor notified the court that the septuagenarian is a double amputee.
After listening to the facts the magistrate handed down the three-year sentence.
