Head of the government-implemented Interim Management Committee (IMC) Clive Lloyd confirmed to Guyana Times International Sports yesterday, that Guyana will continue further participation in the ongoing Regional Four-Day tournament.
According to Lloyd, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) informed him that the IMC can only field the similar team that played their last game against Jamaica. The decision was made at the WICB Directors’ meeting on Monday night.
However, where the officials are concern, Lloyd said the WICB has not yet confirmed if there could be any changes.
Guyana’s next match starts on Friday against Barbados at the Kensington Oval. They are currently on 24 points after four games and their final preliminary match is against Trinidad and Tobago from March 16-19. This new development came in the wake of the acting Chief Justice Ian Chang granting an interim injunction against the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) executive from performing duties on behalf of the beleaguered Board. However, that interim injunction among others has led to the officials of the obsolete GCB yesterday tendering their resignation with immediate effect, citing “tremendous stress over the past weeks due to unrelenting state sponsored court proceedings, searches and arrests.”
The IMC announced last week the names of 19 players for training ahead of Guyana’s remaining games, but the sessions at the Guyana National Stadium saw only seven players turning up. The seven players were Richard Ramdeen, Shemroy Barrington, Amir Khan, Jason Sinclair, Vishaul Singh, Leon Johnson and out-of-favour West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan who is the only player among those played in Guyana’s last game.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul and leg spinner Devendra Bishoo are currently with the West Indies 30-man training squad.
Guyana team for their next game against Barbados reads: Veerasammy Permaul, Leon Johnson, Assad Fudadin, Trevon Griffith, Narsingh Deonarine, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Royston Crandon, Christopher Barnwell, Derwin Christian, Brandon Bess, Devendra Bishoo, Ronsford Beaton and Chandrapaul Hemraj.
