Listeners welcome the sounds of Radio Guyana Inc.

The sounds of Radio Guyana Inc (RGI) on the airwaves in Guyana and over the internet have been overwhelmingly welcomed by residents across the entire county – from villages in the Pomeroon River and the Essequibo Coast to East Berbice on the Corentyne and other overseas-based Guyanaese.
The station is also heard in Bartica, Nickerie in Suriname, and parts of Linden. According to reports received by RGI staff members, most vehicles on the road are tuned in to RGI. The station began testing its operations in late November 2012 and started broadcasting during the first week in December last year.
RGI staff members visited the Essequibo Coast recently, and spoke with residents about the operations of the station. Almost without exception, they said they are pleased with the music and thanked the management for taking into consideration their taste of music as part of the programming.
On the Corentyne, residents there have also expressed satisfaction with the various types of music being played, and many parents said their children were enjoying the music. In particular, the feedback received has indicated that villagers were happy with the fact that the music is suitable for both old and young people, as well as children.
“We are very happy that the management of the station appears to be very conscious of what we want to hear,” said a school teacher of Victoria on the East Coast Demerara. “Radio Guyana has simply made people happy, and my family and friends are all happy.”
RGI, which transmits on 89.5FM in Georgetown and its environs, 89.3FM on the Essequibo Coast, and 89.7FM in the Berbice area, provides a 24- hour mix of several genres and styles of music suitable for listeners of all age groups. These include R& B, soca, Bollywood hits, selective chutney, hiphop and reggae, as well as religious music.
General Manager of the Guyana Times/TVG/RGI media group Daniel Singh said the management of the station is happy with the feedback received thus far.
“From the very inception, we took into account what exactly radio listeners in Guyana want to hear and we are catering specifically to that set of needs,” he said.
Singh said the radio station is for everyone, adding that the content will continue to be wholesome and enjoyable for all listeners. “We are pleased that we are in a position to offer this service to our listeners and will do our very best to continue making available an outstanding quality of programming to the people of Guyana,” Singh said.
Guyana Times, Television Guyana and Radio Guyana form part of the Queens Atlantic Investment Inc group of companies, with head office at Industrial Site, Ruimveldt in Georgetown.
Singh said the overarching goal of the three media entities is to reach out to the Guyanese people, including those in the most remote regions where citizens often feel ignored amid the ongoing growth and development in the country.
“We have catered for every Guyanese, regardless of where people live, their political persuasion, or their race and culture,” he said.
“Our coverage of the news and the entertainment we provide are intended to touch every sector of the society.
We consider it an honour to be able to serve people via newspaper – including online, television and now radio.” Singh added that, while such an “honour” is upheld proudly within the company, it is also one which is seen as a tremendous responsibility in service to every Guyanese.” (Guyana Times)
