Linden man burnt with gasoline by battered reputed wife

Deon Marks, 43, a vendor of Lot 206 Fourth Street, Silvertown and also of Lot 31 Nottinghamshire Mines in Linden, was burned about his body with gasoline by his reputed wife, following an argument at their home.
Reports are that, following the incident, the man was rushed to the Linden Hospital while his 52-year-old reputed wife was taken into Police custody.
According to Police, the couple has been together for two years, and Marks is reportedly in the habit of threatening and hitting his reputed wife.
This publication was told that on Sunday an argument ensued after the woman accused Marks of stealing her money. During the argument, the woman allegedly locked Marks out of their Nottinghamshire Mines house.
Marks allegedly armed himself with a spade and broke the lock to the home to gain entry. The women reportedly then retrieved a gallon bottle of gasoline and threw it on the victim along with a cigarette she was smoking.
As Marks’s body caught fire, he rushed to the gate and jumped into a gutter. A taxi driver saw what had taken place and rushed him to the Linden Hospital Complex. He was treated for burns about his body and his condition is listed as stable.
The woman later surrendered to ranks at the Mackenzie Police Station, where she reportedly admitted to the crime.
Police later visited the scene of the crime. Investigations are ongoing. (Utamu Belle)
