Let the Chris Brown show go on

Dear Editor,
When the news was announced that Chris Brown was booked for a mega concert in Guyana, the government, particularly the tourism sector, was lambasted by a large contingent of people. In fact, women’s’ groups got a number of field days in this regard: the government is being insensitive; women are being let down; injustices against women. Well, the concert seems set to go on. The voices of antagonism against the show reasoned that Chris Brown was found guilty of violence against Rihanna.  I now ask, how it feels to know that Rihanna seems oblivious of and insensitive to all the fussing people, concerning her abuse?
Coming out of the international press, the report is that Chris Brown and Rihanna are just having a blast. The two are currently collaborating on a song called “Nobodies Business” for her upcoming album, and in recent weeks, they’ve been spotted at clubs and restaurants together.
Even if the two are not together, Guyanese have choices. When Chris Brown performs at the concert, it is up to us as Guyanese to make the choice of going or not. I say that the show is about entertainment and boosting Guyana’s image. If Guyana can attract high profile entertainment personalities, then it is a big plus for all of us. Let the show go on, as it has little to do with women’s issues.

Yours sincerely,
Jonathan Miles
