There is a distinctive difference between someone who gets into business just to make a living and someone who gets into business because of their drive and passion for whatever they’re selling. Be it a service or an item, the passion becomes infectious and every customer knows that there is the fire that drives that businessperson.
That driving force has been a dominant factor in Lennox Parris’s life for as long as he can remember. It has led him into the world of business from a young age and now that he is a seasoned veteran, he still gets first-day jitters every single time he interacts with his clients.
Parris hails from the mining town of Linden in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) and has been actively involved in business for decades now.
“I grew up in Linden and I migrated when I was just 19 years old. From small, I always used to buy and sell things. I would always be selling something because I liked business and earning my own money. When I migrated to the US, I started a business called Caribbean Shipping and it has been around for 19 years now,” the 42-year-old said.
However, Parris said that he always wanted to return to Guyana, particularly his hometown, and do something that would be beneficial to the community. He saw the need for an entity that could supply all that was needed for an event at an affordable cost and as one would imagine, he made sure to capitalise on that.
So he returned home and in January of 2015, he opened the doors of Lennox One Stop Party Rentals based in Silvertown, Wismar in Linden.
“I always wanted to come back home and do something. I came across some chairs first and then I started the rental and the chairs needed tables and the tables came and that is how I got started with the party rental service. The chairs and tables led to all of this now and five years later, I can boast about having everything you need for a party under one roof. When I say everything, I mean everything that you would need to get your party off the ground,” he said.
“We do rentals of tables, chairs, drop cords, generators, tents, spoons, forks, plates, grills and a whole lot more. We also do it on an affordable scale so that people do not have to break their pockets just to have quality events,” Parris added.
Parris has developed a number of party packages for Lindeners and continues to make a positive impact. One of his latest innovative packages is that of the rental of BBQ grills, but the sweetest part is the fact that the grill does not come alone. Along with the BBQ grill, one would get starter fluid, chairs, tables, coolers, tents, food racks, foil pans, coals, spoons and chips to get the grill fired up.

“I offer a whole party package because we at Lennox Party Rentals want people to have an experience without all the hassle of going to several places to get things organised. I actually just came up with a wake package because as we know wake is a time that is hard for the family but not only is it hard but it is expensive. With our packages, we will provide a discount and set everything up so you don’t have that trouble and have to spend a lot of money.
“We want to be able to help every person that comes to us and make sure that they don’t have to break the bank to get what they want. For me when I first started I had so much trouble with finances, but I was so determined to succeed I kept pushing myself. Now that I am in a better place, I want to be able to offer a helping hand and that is what we do through the Lennox Party Rental brand,” he boasted.
When asked about what advice he would give to anyone, particularly the younger population, who are thinking about getting into business, this is what Parris had to say:
“Consistency is key. It is one of the most important things and you need it. No matter if you making $20, $40, $100 always push ahead. Don’t stop what you are doing despite what you are making. We have a lot of young people getting into business today and want to get rich tomorrow; it does not work so. You have to be determined and have the drive to push and continue because consistency is important and the key to your success.”
