Legacy in tatters

Dear Editor,

Allow me to respond to a letter published in the Stabroek News on March 28, 2011titled; “A legacy in tatters.”

A group of known rejects calling themselves “Cheddi Jagan Memorial Committee” held an event in New York soley for the purpose of publicity. As it turned out, the event was a grave injustice to the life of Dr. Jagan. It attracted an audience of 70 persons who left very disappointed at the level of the discussions and with the organizers of the event.

As an admirer of Dr. Jagan’s works, I attended expecting to hear about his works. Instead, all I heard was some silly ranting of the PPP and its leadership. After one of the organizers told me that they were “sidelined” by the PPP, I figured out the purpose of the event. It became very clear to me that they were “sidelined” because they did nothing to further the cause of Dr. Jagan and the PPP. Simply put—they wasted the attendees’ time and used a significant event to demonstrate their ignorance about the PPP and its leadership.

By the way, can Colin Moore tell us why he is no longer a lawyer? In the end the best part of the event was the singing and dancing.

Sincerely,

Bheena Persaud
