Launching of the multimillion-dollar children’s home

Dear Editor,

Digicel Guyana handed over the newly-constructed Mahaica Children’s Home to the Human Services and Social Security Minister Jenifer Webster during a simple ceremony held at the location. The initiative was conceived by Digicel in December 2011.

Ideally, the entity should manifest an exceptional level of quality care and should have zero tolerance for ill treatment. Caring for children can sometimes be a challenging and overwhelming job, and so, it is essential for child care workers to possess great patience, understanding and have sympathy for those who may occasionally misbehave. Care takers must be prepared to work with children of all backgrounds and ages.

Children homes are meant to be safe keeping places where children can receive the care and attention that they need. It is essential for child care workers to be properly trained in managing and attending to children.

As child caregivers, we must desist from subjecting children to any form of abuse. The primary purpose of a children’s home aside from providing food and shelter is to shield children from any form of ill- treatment.

Sincerely,

Xavier Cummings
