The large crowd that witnessed the annual Linden Town Week pageant was well entertained as nine beautiful ladies participated in the intelligence and talent segments and flaunted magnificent outfits in the evening and swimwear segments.
Of the nine delegates vying for the title: Miss Silvertown Nikita McFarlane, Miss Watooka Kenisha Regis, Phillips, Miss Block 22 Nicola Rodney, Miss Retrieve Wrenea Sidney, Miss Amelia’s Ward Shevane Charles, Miss Coomacka Shanti Paul, Miss Kara Kara Kimberly Elexey, and Miss Central Mackenzie Laketa Mcphoy, only four were selected following the display of swimsuit and evening wear. They were:  Mcphoy, Paul, Phillips, and Elexey. Paul was adjudged third runner-up and Elexey, second runner-up.
Phillips, who was a crowd pleaser throughout the evening, was asked the question “if you could be either water or fire, which would you chose and why?” Her response thrilled the audience.
“I would choose water, because it is a necessity, fire is found in natural resources such as the sun and water saves lives…”
Mcphoy had earlier performed the poem “Mad Lady”, which she had written for the talent segment. She will receive a trip to Trinidad and Tobago and a laptop computer.
The prize for best smile and Miss Congeniality were awarded to Charles, who will be awarded a digital camera for copping the best smile award. Best talent was awarded to Elexey who performed a poem “Me The Child Mother”, written by Michael James. She also won the best gown prize.
Reigning Miss Guyana Universe and Miss Linden Town Week 2010 Ruqquyah Boyer and 2011 winner Kishanna Alicock also graced the stage. Alicock, in her final walk, exclaimed that it was both an honour and a privilege to serve the community during her reign.
Elated
The new queen, who was quite elated, said that she is now looking forward to help move the community forward.
“It feels quite exciting despite the fact that I was not fully prepared (for the competition), but I came and I gave it my best shot, I can’t even find words to express how I feel at this time. I would like to thank the promoters who were behind us all the time and never gave up on us, as well as the trainers who were very dedicated; my mother – I love you so much, you were always behind me. My fellow colleague Kimberly Elexey and to everyone else that has been supporting me even as a group, my friends, relatives, thank you. Now that I have been crowned Miss Linden Town Week 2013, I will be working closely with the relevant authorities to better my town,” she declared.
