A 19-year-old labourer who was caught on surveillance camera snatching a woman’s purse was on Tuesday sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for the crime.
Quesi Jordon of Lot 123 Hill Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and admitted to the charge which alleged that on December 6, 2019, at Ruimvedlt, Georgetown, he stole one Guess purse during the course of a robbery.
According to reports, on the day in question, at about 17:05h, the defendant snatched a Guess handbag containing personal items and fled the scene.
The theft occurred on Ruimveldt Public Road whilst the victim was proceeding south in slow-moving traffic.
The traumatised female victim promptly reported the matter and an investigation was conducted during which closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage was retrieved some distance from where the crime occurred and it showed a male riding through a street with a bag identical to that stolen from the victim.
A further investigation was carried out and Jordan was arrested, however, no items were recovered.
Additionally, the Guyana Police Force is encouraging members of the public who have surveillance cameras at their homes and businesses that may have captured a crime to keep the footage and hand it over so it can be used as evidence.
