Labourer fined, jailed for narco trafficking

Forty-nine-year-old Abel Simon,called “Jack” of Cotton Field Village, Essequibo Coast, was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined G$30,000 for the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

He made his appearance before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded guilty to two trafficking charges.

The prosecution contended that on September 26, 2016, detectives attached to the Anna Regina Police Station were on mobile patrol aback of Cotton Field Village when the defendant was seen walking and acting in a suspicious manner. As such, he was stopped and searched, and during the search, Police uncovered eight grams of cocaine and eight grams of cannabis in his trouser pocket. He was arrested and charged.
