With the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Electoral Congress quickly approaching, president of the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC), Alfred King, said that while he is ‘inclined’ to running for the top post of the local governing body, he is currently ‘ weighing his options.’ King, also the Permanent Secretary in the Sport Ministry, said once he is nominated, he will contest the election, but under certain conditions.

Referring to the recent FIFA/ CONCACAF’s resolution of the GFF/ Georgetown Football Association (GFA) impasse, King explained that football is currently going through a healing process, one which would require “diverse intervention” for it to move forward.
The PS added that he’s always willing to serve football, and the GFF top post is one he is considering, having received several “unofficial” endorsements to contest the election, which is less than two months away.
However, King said he is in the process of assessing what is required of the GFF office in terms of the demands of local, regional and international engagements, and how those will impact his current portfolio.
Five individuals have been named to contest the post: Alpha United president and Presidential Advisor Odinga Lumumba, GFA General Secretary Christopher Matthias, Opposition parliamentarian Joseph Harmon, Attorneyat-law Gordon Guilhuys and Colonel Bruce Lovell.
The Golden Jaguars, through skipper Christopher Nurse, have suggested former national player Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules as the right man to move football forward, given his vast knowledge of the game.
