Karatekas express confidence ahead of World Cup in Canada

The karatekas and officials pose minutes before they departed the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Monday

Twenty karatekas departed the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Monday night en route to Canada where they will represent Guyana at the first International Karate Daigaku World Cup tournament until July 9.
Guyana will be represented by 18 junior and seven senior karatekas during the seven day contest. Also, Guyana Times International Sport learnt that three of the 25 members left for Canada last Thursday.
Meanwhile, Senior Instructor of the Guyana Karate College (GKC), Sensei Jeffrey Wong, told this publication recently that Guyana’s hopes lie tremendously on the junior karatekas, since they have always done Guyana proud at the international level. He is confident that the team will be successful during the tournament.
The team to represent Guyana reads: Tyler Orderson, John McGrath, Romel Rameshwar,  Yannick Rameshwar, Aliya Wong, Tashana Wong, Alyssa Persaud, Joshua Mortley, Desmond Fernandes, Mark Wong, Eric Hing, Phillip Romalho, Liam Wong, Kenny Wong, Kemo Alleyne, Carlos Gonsalves, Matthew Hurry, Dianand Dial, Kerry Ramkumar, Tenisha Plowell, Jeffrey Wong, Chetram Mortley, Aubrey Bettencourt, Dr. Guy Low, and Claire Martelly.
