Kamla plays Santa in Penal

Hundreds of Trinidadian children and their parents gathered in front of their homes and at street corners along the Penal Rock Road, awaiting the arrival of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Sunday, 19th December, as she continued her Christmas treat exercise — this time in a motorcade.

Persad-Bissessar left her constituency office in Penal, at about 13:45 hrs, riding in the tray of a canopied pick-up truck, accompanied by a heavy police presence and a music truck, as she embarked on her toy distribution exercise to children along the roadway.

And, like Santa, she had many helpers who assisted her in distributing the gifts. Men and women dressed in Santa Claus costumes rode ahead of her on motorcycles and in the trays of vans, distributing little bags of goodies and balloons on sticks to the excited children, who braved the rains which came down during the proceedings in the hope of receiving a gift from the prime minister.

Rummaging through their bags of goodies afterwards, the little ones anxiously pulled out the treats one by one, some of them wasting no time in opening them.

Persad-Bissessar yesterday refused to speak to the media on anything but the gift-giving exercise. (Trinidad Express)
