Jealous man charged with killing step-nephew

Murder accused: Roy Lewis

A man, who allegedly stabbed to death his step-nephew while he was sleeping next to his girlfriend, was Monday arraigned on a charge of murder.
Facing the capital charge is 36-year old Roy Lewis of Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice. He was not required to plea to the indictable charge.
He is accused of murdering his brother’s stepson, 18-year old Devon Da Silva also known as Devon Lewis on December 27 at Sister’s Village, East Bank Berbice.
After allegedly killing the youth, Lewis ingested a poisonous substance to commit suicide but he was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he recovered.
Magistrate, Adela Nagamootoo remanded the murder accused to jail until February 13 when he is scheduled to appear in the Sister’s Magistrates’ Court. The case first has to go through a Preliminary Inquiry to determine if there is enough evidence for him to face trial by a judge and jury.

Dead: Devon Da Silva

Lewis allegedly inflicted multiple stab wounds on Da Silva while he was asleep next to his girlfriend, Ashley “Toya’ Whyte at her parents’ home at 112 Sisters Village.
Based on a number of accounts, Lewis had either seduced the youth into a homosexual relationship or he had always harboured an interest in the lad and had become jealous because he had a girlfriend.
