By Shan Razack –

The JC Chandisingh Secondary School will be celebrating its 75th Diamond Jubilee Reunion on Saturday, June 29 2013 in the Great Ballroom at Leonard’s of Great Neck in Long Island, NY.
“It would be a special night to meet with school-mates and teachers and reminisce about the happiest five years of our lives in Guyana and give thanks to the people and celebrate an institution which has done so much to shape our lives,” said the Reunion committee.

The committee has chosen Leonard’s of Great Neck for its scenic location and opulence as well as for its elegance and sophistication. Cocktails in its exquisitely-landscaping garden will provide a photo opportunity of a lifetime. The intention is to make the evening as memorable as the Diamond Jubilee Anniversary being celebrated.
Rishi Singh, President of alumni association used the opportunity to call on all alumni to use this historic anniversary in a meaningful way. “There are many small projects which we can execute and which will bring ease and enrichment to our present day and future students. Some of these projects  include (a) installing a flag pole to fly the school’s flag (b) installing solar panels and a wind charger to power computers whenever there is a blackout (c) replacing old chalk boards and furniture (d) installing translucent roofing so that some classrooms are not dark throughout and especially on rainy days (e) installing classroom screens, re-equipping labs, sport gears and courts (f) providing full scholarships to deserving students, awarding incentives and prizes to top performers whether in academics or sports, trophies and medals for best graduating students, prizes for the best writers, debaters and innovations, tokens for dedicated teachers and mentors.
Vek Lalji suggested that the central committee select a club historian whose job would be to collect documents and photographs and compile them. This would then be passed on to the next elected historian when he leaves office. “Actually you will be building an archive at JC Chandisingh Secondary School. Fence the entire property owned by JCCSecondary School and start building a Campus, to be designed and landscaping where trees are planted and flowers patch are set up,” Lalji said.
In a brief comment Julius Nathoo’s said that the event is shaping up to be the mother of all Reunions! “The 75th anniversary of our alma mater is a once in- a-lifetime event. Some of us may not even live to see another reunion. This glorious opportunity must not be missed. New York which withstood the most devastating natural disaster in living memory is the rendezvous- symbolic of the indomitable nature of the institution which played such a significant part in the shaping of our destinies,” he said.
He added; “I urge all our brothers and sisters in New York to open their doors and arms to their brothers and sisters living abroad to make this night, and the several days that follow, an affair to remember. What wonderful paragons we are: while we grow old, our hearts and our memories remain young glistering in the sunshine of sweet remembrances.”
Beauty (Rawana) Ramotar said: “The more reason to attend this once in a lifetime grand 75th Jubilee event is to joyfully meet and reconnect with old teachers and form-mates.” Graduates from various parts of the world are expected to attend the event.
