Jay Sobraj donates crime fighting lab in Berbice

The village is called Adventure. The county is Berbice. It is the region where such great Guyanese as Dr. Cheddi Jagan and Rohan Kanhai, to name a few, were born.
And just recently, exceptional philanthropist, Mr. Jay Sobhraj, Senior Vice President of Zara Realty Holding Corp., formally handed over the multi-million (G) dollar Guyana Police Force-Zara Computer Centre at the Felix Austin Police College, “B” Division, Adventure, Berbice.
Punctuated by interludes of live orchestration from the Guyana Police Force Band, even the legendary Caribbean icons Dr. Jagan and Mr. Kanhai, would have applauded the visionary, sterling masterpiece donated by Jay Sobhraj, in the county.
This however, is more than a computer centre for Jay Sobhraj. It is a definitive statement of his determination to embrace the philosophy that the acquisition of knowledge is the beginning of true greatness. And in his quest to develop the concept he has personally funded, not merely one or two such centers’, but SIX so far; and a total of TEN by his brothers and ‘presidential’ partners of Zara Realty Holding Corp., George and Ken Subraj.
Com. Of Police (Ag) Mr. Brumell commended the Zara team for their speed and innovation and reminded everyone that being computer literate will enhance the crime fighting skills of the force especially with the “new trend of crime in the world today.”
Jay, a Mechanical Engineer, who studied in England, said that, “anyone can plant a tree but it’s that special person, the gardener, who takes care of it. What we have done here is the easy part,” he disclosed. “It’s now up to the members of the force and the community to take care of it.
Looking around and from the expressions of awe with everyone smiling as the band belted out the joyful tunes, Jay Sobhraj and his team had reasons to be proud of the Berbice branch of their extensive and latest state-of-art- computer training center. Berbice was indeed smiling.
