Jamzone Masters Cup bowls off August 17 at Guyana National Stadium

Organisers of the second Hits and Jams Entertainment Jamzone Masters’ Cup Twenty20 two-day tournament have released the names of the four teams competing. The tournament bowls off on August 17 and concludes on August 19, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

Hits and Jams Spartans, Georgetown King’s XI, Hotel Tower New Line Cavaliers and defending champions Universal DVD Club Berbice Titans are the teams vying for the US$ 10,000 first place prize and trophy.

This year’s event is expected to be packed with scintillating action, as a number of Indian Premier League and West Indies T20 specialists are scheduled to compete.
Among those named to be part of the two nights of action are mystery spinner Sunil Narine, the big-hitting Chris Gayle, all-rounders Dwayne Bravo, Dwayne Smith, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard.
The world’s number four- ranked Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is also part of the mix. The Georgetown King’s XI will play the defending champions in the first semi- final on August 17 and has named a squad that includes former West Indies opener Travis Dowlin and all-rounder Lennox Cush, who will join forces with Dwayne Smith and Suleiman Benn.
Other members of the squad are West Indies T20 all rounder Christopher Barnwell, who has been appointed the deputy to skipper Shemroy Barrington, Derwin Christian, Steven Jacobs, Shawn De Souza and Dion Ferrier who are all specialists in their own right.
On the other hand, the defending champions in their bid to retain their championship, have named West Indies middle order batsmen Assad Fudadin and Narsingh Deonarine, along with A team players in skipper Veerasammy Permaul, Jonathan Foo, West Indies leg spinner Devendra Bishoo and former WI opening batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon in their lineup.
The Hits and Jam Spartans and Hotel Tower New Line Cavaliers clash can be considered as a one-sided affair, taking into consideration the players named on paper for the Hits and Jam Spartans. Tyrell Tull will lead the Hits and Jam Spartans that include the powerful Jamaica and West Indies opener Christopher Gayle, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine and dependable West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, among others.
The Demerara New Line Cavaliers will have such players as Andre Percival, Gajanand Singh, Paul Wintz, Balram Samaroo and a few guest players, to lead their charge. Last year, the Jamzone Masters’ Cup was introduced into the line-up of the Jamzone Summer Break events. Thousands turned out to the Guyana National Stadium over the course of two days to witness the action.
