Jagdeo hails Sai Baba as an “amazing sage”

President Bharrat Jagdeo said: “It is with a profound sense of sadness that I learnt of the passing of Sri Sathya Sai Baba”.

President Bharrat Jagdeo visited Sri Satya Sai Baba at the Prashanti Nilayam ashram during his trip to India in February 2011

Sai Baba was interred on Wednesday, April 27th, in the compound of the Prasanthi Nilayam Ashram in Puttaparthi, India. In a message, President Jagdeo said: “I join with the multitudes who are today mourning the death of this truly amazing sage, spiritualist and humanitarian. I extend sympathies to his many loyal devotees in Guyana and around the world, and hope that the grief that they feel at this irreparable loss will be tempered by the recognition that in his lifetime he touched millions and brought relief to countless through his spiritual and charitable work.”

Jagdeo said the work of Sai Baba among the poor, the physically challenged and refugees is testimony to someone who did not divorce his spirituality from the pursuit of good deeds. “He will always be revered and remembered as a truly great soul, and I have no doubt that his example and teachings will inspire generations to come. The Guyanese leader said he had the distinct pleasure of meeting with the Sai earlier this year, and for him it was a deeply moving and humbling experience.
