Infant killed during parents drunking brawl

A two-month-old baby boy is dead following an altercation between his parents at their Lot 24 Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home.
Dead is Andy Hunte, who reportedly died from lacerations to the head. The child’s father (name unknown) reportedly took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The man is currently on the run. According to Hunte’s 38-year-old mother (name unknown), she and the father of the child had an altercation after she asked him to buy milk and ‘porridge stuff’ for the baby.
The woman said she had also asked the father to stay at home to look after the child, as she wanted to go to work (domestic work), but he refused and she was forced to carry the baby with her.
Upon her return to their home at approximately 10:00h on Tuesday, she went to purchase pampers for the child after which her husband went and purchased “Banco”. He drank most of the wine; she also drank some. It was during the drinking session that the woman asked Hunte’s father to buy the milk and porridge stuff. “… he tell me, ‘Me always with dat’ and tek out he belt from he waist and he fire lash and me holding the baby down and the lash ketch the baby,” the woman recounted. She said that it was the child’s father who carried him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman was on Tuesday evening, assisting police with investigations.
