Indian soap stars thrill fans in Guyana

The curtains of the “Music of the World 2 Super Concert” were pulled just about 04: 00h on Sunday with mixed reactions from the audience, despite some spectacular performances from the two stars of the Indian soap opera, “Yahan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli” and Chutney King of the World, KI.

Kudos to the team from Fire Fest Productions for a well-planned and well-executed event with respect to artistes’ performances, but it somewhat failed to provide a clear view to patrons who were in the general admission section.
Disappointed and furious members of the audience vented their dissatisfaction with the way they were treated, and thought that more consideration should have been given to patrons who did not pay Gy$10,000 and Gy$20,000 to be a part of the show. It was clear from the back of the Guyana National Stadium that the VIP and the VVIP mounted stage completely blocked the main stage area, making it difficult for some patrons to see the live performances. As a result of this, the audience was forced to view the show from two big screens which malfunctioned on several occasions during the programme.
Despite all the glitches and the unnecessary décor which stopped people from viewing the performances; the concert lived up to its pre-show hype. It was undoubtedly one of the best concerts in recent times.
The highlight of the evening, however, was the seductive and energetic performance by Karan and Abha from “Yahan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli”. The pair made a grand entrance to the stage by greeting their fans as they were escorted by heaving security and a host of cameras and dazzling lights, topped with fireworks and sparkles in the air.
It was indeed a magnificent sight, especially when the multi-coloured lights from the ceiling of the stage created a kaleidoscope, making the atmosphere look magical. As the stars appeared on stage, the thunderous screams from the more than 20,000 fans drowned out the sound system.
As promised, the pair delivered with charisma and style. The stars opened with a few romantic pieces, followed by some new Bollywood hits including “Par Desi Girls”, which left the audience spellbound.
Decked in a red and golden sari, Abha’s silky hair brushed the shoulder of Karan, making it looked as if the patrons were looking at an Indian movie. It was a high-class performance, even to the harshest critic. They were accompanied by the Ishara dancers who did a splendid job. Karan on the other hand with his milky body, had the girls going wild. As they performed, they interacted with their fans expressing their love and thanking Guyana for the warmth and love they have showered upon them during their stay here.
Minutes later, the Indian stars invited the promoter and Fire Fest Productions’ chief executive officer, Mahendra Ramkellawan to the stage, and he sang his signature song “Dem Ah Watch Meh”. They used the opportunity to get their grooves on to chutney music and the Caribbean vibes. There were loud cheers as they danced to the chutney music. Immediately after their performance, they were escorted to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) to board their flight back to India.
Just about 01: 45h, Chutney King of the world, Kris Persad, called “KI” made his way on stage, and as expected, the crowd erupted as he opened up with “Single Forever”. He rocked the Guyana National Stadium.
It was steam and high energy running through the veins of his fans. After singing some of his tunes, he introduced Neval Chatelall, who is the newest member of the JMC 3Veni Band. He dished out several Bollywood filmi renditions which were well appreciated by the audience.
