In support of harmony

Dear Editor,

I bring to mind a most important controversy, regarding the just-concluded national and regional elections.

This controversy emanated from a misconception which was peddled by oppositional elements. As expected, this engendered a volatile situation in this land, but which the PPP/C quelled instantly.

Without repeating all the details here, I remind readers that the PPP/C did call for a recount of some of the ballot boxes. However, this was in no way to suggest any kind of admission of defeat. This is where many opposition voices opportunistically made a move.

Another worthy act to note here is the fact that the PPP/C removed a victory statement from their Facebook page. After over exuberance led to this unofficial statement of victory, it, of course, created negative vibes, so in hearing that Donald Ramotar ordered its removal, it was quite refreshing.

I close by reminding the general public that the elections were deemed ‘fair, free and transparent’, by the external and neutral observers. So, all the commotion regarding some kind of ruse should be put to rest – period. Now I can understand some impatience regarding the slow processing of results. But I ask that all be reminded that it is better to always be slow and sure.

Yours truly,

Lalpat Baiju
