The Inter Guiana Games (IGG) team departed for the second leg of the competition on Thursday morning from the National Gymnasium, where they will compete in athletics, volleyball, swimming and basketball.

Athletes from the four disciplines were hard at work prior to their departure for the IGG meet and therefore some admirable performances are expected.

Chef-de-mission of the team Dr Karen Pilgrim noted that all systems were in place for the team’s departure.

“Things have been a little busy lately with the holiday tomorrow (Wednesday) but everything is set for the team to travel,” Pilgrim told Guyana Times International Sport via telephone on Tuesday.

Pilgrim also noted that she believes that athletics and volleyball should be the two teams to do well at the games.

Pilgrim was however; less optimistic about the male basketball and swimming teams, since many of the athletes will be first timers.

She noted that the female basketball team should do well since many of the players had competed last year.

The local team is expected to start competition on Friday with basketball action.
