Hundreds of U.S.-based Guyanese return home for Easter holidays

On Monday, Guyana and the rest of the world celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ and to usher in this holy season, many Guyanese families in the diaspora returned home to be a part of a true Guyanese Easter celebrations.
Guyana Times International caught up with Seon Bristol and his family, who expressed their excitement to be in Guyana, noting that they came back to have a blast. Some of them are visiting Guyana for the first time, while others are frequent visitors during this time of year.

Bristol, the head of the group said he is pleased to have organised the trip, which has been filled with merriment thus far. He added that while there are 15 family members visiting Guyana, he is optimistic that the number will increase in the near future.
Bristol added that he left Guyana some 32 years ago and has never been in the country to witness kite flying, but was told that it is a beautiful scene.
His two sons declared that while they came to enjoy themselves; they are also hoping to tour the University of Guyana, with the objective of comparing their colleges with the university.
The two young men are also hoping to participate in some family-oriented activities such as kite flying and fishing.
One of the young women, who is visiting for the first time, said she loves the Guyanese hospitality and the fresh air. Another said she loves the music, the party vibes and is having a grand time.
Other relatives shared the same sentiments, reiterating that they came back to enjoy themselves. One of the oldest members of the family said Easter “long time” compared to now is totally different.
She recalled that as soon as school breaks for the Easter vacation, children were on the road with their kites. During that time, she said parents had to deal with the kite paper and paste that were strewn around the place after the making of kites. The woman said she will be happy if those days could come again.
