The inaugural staging of Caribbean Fury was hailed a resounding success with two Guyanese boxers, Leon ‘ Hurry Up’ Moore and Shondell ‘ Mystery Lady’ Alfred, emerging champions. Caribbean Fury 2 was launched on Friday at the Princess Hotel, and according to promoter Carwyn Holland, Moore and Alfred will be in ac tion again.
The duo will defend their World Boxing Association titles at the Princess Hotel on November 6.
Moore will fight Venezuelan Breilor Teran in the feature 10- round bout, while Alfred will match gloves with Columbian Olga ‘ La Mona’ Julio in a six round confrontation.
Both boxers expressed con- fidence of beating their oppo nents.
Moore, who has been out of action for the past eight months owing to a hand injury, said he will “ hit” his opponent hard next month, while adding that he has already commenced preparation for the bout.
Alfred, who stamped her authority in the rematch against American Gladiator Corinne ‘ Sexy Panther’ DeGroot at the same venue in June, is up against a more ex perienced fighter, but she is ea ger to continue her ascendancy on the international stage.
The 30- year- old Moore is teaming up with Holland to stage the card through his Lion Love Promotion of New York, ‘ Hurry Up’ Promotion.
Meanwhile, the other fights on the card will see rising star Kwesi Jones trading skills with American Raul Frank, while Guyanese heavyweight Mitchell Rogers and compatriot Theophelous King will do battle.
Local boy James Walcott will face off with Trinidadian Joel McRae in the lightweight category.
The two other fights on the card will see Canadian Richard Reittie tackling Guyanese Mark Murray, and Dominicabased Guyanese Clive Atwell will trade punches with his Guyanese counterpart, Errol Trotman.
Jones, who recently de feated Howard Eastman in the Guyana Boxing Board of Control ( GBBC) Friday Nights ProAm fights at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Georgetown, yesterday de clared his readiness for the clash against his more illustri ous opponent, Frank.
Promoter Carwyn Holland is also anticipating another successful event. The night’s proceedings will be broadcast throughout the Caribbean and North America.
Holland also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Princess Hotel Guyana for coming on board again.
Meanwhile, general man ager of Princess Hotel Guyana, Muharrem Kulekci, mentioned that the hotel was extremely pleased and happy to partner with Holland to stage the event.
Local singer Jomo along with a niece of the late Michael Jackson will be among those expected to provide musical entertainment at the eagerly anticipated Caribbean Fury 2 on November 6.
