High Court trial commences for man accused of fatally stabbing ‘rival’

Murder-accused Rudolph Singh appeared before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall on allegations that he caused the death of Kevin Harrison at Ideal Road, along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway. When arraigned at the High Court in Georgetown, the accused denied the July 12, 2013 stabbing to death of Harrison, by way of entering a plea of not guilty.

A jury of 12 members was subsequently empanelled to hear the case in which a total of seven witnesses are expected to testify.
In the opening addresses, State Prosecutor Narissa Leander implored the jury to keenly observe the evidence which will be presented in the case, urging them to be fair in judgment while Singh’s Attorney, Pamela De Santos highlighted that it was the deceased who armed himself with a knife, got into a scuffle with the defendant, which resulted in his death.
According to reports that surfaced at the time of the murder, the confrontation stemmed over the two men allegedly being romantically involved with the same woman. Singh had reportedly confronted the woman and Harrison at a shop with cutlass in hand. After the woman left, Singh was said to have pursued her and Harrison followed them. Reports are sometime later, the two men got into a physical altercation which led to the deceased man suffering 4 incised wounds, allegedly at the hands of the murder accused.
Police Sergeant Richard Marshall was the first witness to take the stand and he testified to taking the report of the murder at the Timehri Police Station at 19:55h on the day of the incident. He told the court that Singh surrendered himself some four days after the incident occurred.
