Herstelling man stabbed to death by friend

An electrician was in the wee hours of Monday morning stabbed to death by a friend after he intervened in an argument at Number 42 Village, West Coast Berbice.
The dead man has been identified as 50-year-old Sylvan Stoll of Plot ‘B’ Herstelling, East Bank Demerara. The suspect, a 32-year-old labourer of Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara, was arrested and is being questioned.
Based on reports received, the now dead man and the suspect along with other persons travelled from Georgetown to attend a Bar-B-Que event at the Number 42 Community Centre Ground.
Whilst there, an argument erupted between the suspect and a friend and the victim intervened. The suspect, who was armed with a knife dealt Stoll one blow to the left side of his neck, causing him to collapse.
He was picked up and rushed to the Mahaicony Hospital, East Coast Demerara where he later succumbed to his injury. It is believed that both men were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the stabbing.
This stabbing came two days after 53-year-old Mohabeer Gangadeen Kooblall of GAC Old Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara, was mercilessly beaten with a spade at the Potaro Backdam, Region Eight during an argument with a friend.
Based on reports received, the now dead man and the suspect were imbibing with a colleague when an argument ensued between them but this quickly escalated into a scuffle. It was during this time that the suspect, a 35-year-old man, picked up a spade and dealt Kooblall several blows to his head and about his body. The victim died almost immediately.
The Police were summoned to the area thus leading to the arrest of the suspect. He is expected to be charged before the end of the week.
