Two Mahaicony families, whose homes were damaged by heavy winds on Christmas Eve day, have been assured of government’s commitment to help them get back on their feet.
Subsequent to this, on Christmas morning, Local Government and Regional Development Minister Ganga Persaud and a team from his ministry met with the affected families.
Persaud promised the affected families that the administration will aid them in whatever way it can until their lives return to normalcy.
The minister pledged assistance in the form of paddy as the families are farmers.
The farmers expressed gratitude to the government for its efforts in ensuring they are taken care of.
High winds shifted the two houses off their bases. One of the homes is in Hyde Park while the other is in Wash Clothes, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
Amar Singh, 58, his wife and son occupied the home in Wash Clothes, while Bashkan, 67, (only name given) and his two sons lived in the house in Hyde Park.
