Health sector making tremendous strides

Dear Editor,

I noticed that our health sector is moving ahead “bigtime.” There should be no turning back in the construction of the specialty hospital in Guyana. I think the construction of such a hospital will benefit this country tremendously, and no hurdles should be allowed to come in the way for the realisation of such a project.

I recall that the construction of the specialty hospital was the brainchild of former president Bharrat Jagdeo, and if it is to be realised under the watch of current President Donald Ramotar, so be it. It all adds up to one thing — that after its construction, Guyana would be graced with perhaps the best health institution in the Caribbean.

It would be extremely useful to Guyanese patients with certain ailments, who at the moment are obliged to find large sums of money for treatment abroad. It will also save the government tremendously, as whenever patients with certain conditions are required to travel abroad for treatment; the Health Ministry here makes financial contributions to help offset their expenses.

This will all become something of the past when the hospital is constructed.

Patients with those difficult ailments would now be treated right here since there will also be specialists in different fields of medicine who would form the core of the staff.

Editor, Guyana also stands to gain financially as patients from other South American countries and North America and even Europe, would use our facility here, where it would be much cheaper to receive specialised treatment. I believe the authorities should go full steam ahead with the specialty hospital project.

Yours sincerely,

Rudy Sinclair
