Gy$54M visitors’ arrival centre commissioned at Kaieteur National Park

Guyana’s tourism industry continues to develop at a fast pace, and is being recognised as a premier tourism destination in the world.

Another effort in further promoting what Guyana has to offer to the world, while maintaining its natural wonders – ecosystem, biodiversity and landscape – saw the commissioning of another example of good environmental and sustainable management practices, a Gy$54 million visitor’s arrival centre in the Kaieteur National Park.

This centre marks another milestone to enhance facilities at the park, a GINA release said. The centre was completed with support from the German government and the Guyana Protected Areas System Project.

Present at the simple commissioning ceremony on Sunday, September 25 were presidential adviser and People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) presidential candidate Donald Ramotar; Amerindian Affairs Minister Pauline Sukhai; Local Government and Regional Development Minister Norman Whittaker; German Ambassador to Guyana, Stefan Schlueter; National Parks Commission Chairman Shyam Nokta, and other members of the Kaieteur National Park Board and representatives of other government agencies.

In his address to scores of persons at the commissioning of the arrival centre, Ramotar said Guyana should be an example to the rest of the world when it comes to sustainable management of its natural resources.
