Guyanese shocked at CCJ’s ruling

Dear Editor,
The majority of Guyanese was shocked and demoralised by the ruling of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), when a majority decision of the CCJ denied Bharrat Jagdeo a third term presidency.
The ruling by the CCJ indicates that the justice system in Guyana needs to be urgently fixed since both courts – the High Court and the Court of Appeal – ruled in favour of a third term presidency. The CCJ ruling also indicates that the rights of the Parliament is sovereign over the rights of the people. The erosion of the rights of the people can lead to a dictatorship.
This ruling, showed that the CCJ is compromised since there is alleged close affiliation of some members of the CCJ and members A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance For Change (APNU/AFC) coalition Government.
Meanwhile, statements made by the Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo that the former President is battling for survival is actually referring to himself for his personal survival in the APNU/AFC coalition Government. Jagdeo is a dynamic leader and could be considered as one of the most successful Presidents in Guyana and must remain at the leadership of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) to ensure supporters remains confident of supporting the PPP to win the 2020 Regional and General Elections.

Sincerely,
Zamal Hussain
