Guyanese Reggae artiste launches single in New York

Guyanese reggae artiste Walter ‘Ballys’ Aaron is scheduled to launch his brand new single, “Few friends”, later this month in New York. Guyana Times International spoke with Aaron in New York on the launching of his career in the United States. He said: “I’m new here in the country and I am trying to (sort) myself out. I know that there is stiff competition right now in the musical world with the Jamaicans, Trinidadians and Guyanese. Right now, I am 100 per cent Guyanese…so I try to get in a spot …(to) showcase myself, so that people know that Guyana is on the map.”

He is hoping to whet the appetite of reggae lovers with this single; and then, based on the reaction, he plans to produce a complete album. He stressed that he needs to let people hear a single, two singles, and then maybe they will ask for an album and they will know that he is out there. The single is being produced by Lion Love Promotions and GT Youths Production in New York.

The reggae singer is no stranger to the music industry. He has been a performing artiste since 1996, in Guyana with the Mysterious Guys, and later in the early 2000s, Aaron became a member of Red Code, a recording group that worked in Barbados with Kross Kolors. He has also previously performed with Luciano and First Born. The reggae artiste noted that he has also worked with other labels in Guyana, such as Platinum and Vision Sounds Studios.

Meanwhile, as a newcomer to the U.S., he is enthusiastic about the relationship with the Guyanese diaspora, since he feels that there is too much politics surrounding music back home in Guyana. He said that, in New York, people see him as just him, and the Guyanese in New York are more positive, they think differently and are seeing the artists as they are. He also said that, in Guyana, the people do not see artistes as role models.

He is also looking to relaunch a single in the U.S., called “Drive-by”, for the listening pleasure of his fellow Guyanese. The song was recorded in Jamaica and its message is directed at youths, whom he advises “to remain in school, stay clear of drugs and crime.”
