Guyana’s Lennox Braithwaite assumes lead after day two

Guyana’s marksman, Lennox Braithwaite turned in creditable performance to accumulate 200 points with 16 V Bulls to lead the points table when action on the second day of the West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championships concluded at the Timehri Rifle Ranges on Wednesday afternoon.


Braithwaite assumed the lead from Jamaica’s John Nelson who was leading at the conclusion of the opening day on Tuesday with 116 points with 10 V Bulls. It was a remarkable overall performance for the local shooters as Captain Mahendar Persaud recorded 199 points with 20 V Bulls, Dylan Fields, 198 points with 15 V Bulls and Ransford Goodluck, 198 points with 14 V Bulls sealed off the top 4 positions.
Jamaican Aubrey Yee-Sang edged fellow countryman John Nelson (195 points with 15 V Bulls) to occupied the fifth position with 196 points and 17 V Bulls. Another Jamaican Jose Nunez registered 195 points with 13 V Bulls, Trinidadian Norris Gomez, 194 points with 14 V Bulls, Barbadian Marlon King 193 points with 11 V Bulls and Antiguan Anderson Perry with 193 points with 11 V Bulls rounded out the top ten positions in the 300 and 500-yard ranges.
However, the scheduled 600-yard ranges shoot came to a premature end, due to a thunder storm at the venue. Guyanese, Lennox Braithwaite shot his way to honours in the first event over 300 yards with a remarkable showing of 50 points and 3 V Bulls in the X Class category while Jamaican Aubrey Yee-Sang registered 49 points and 6 V Bulls in the O Class category.
President of the West Indies Fullbore Shooting Council, Norris Gomez dominated the 500 yards shoot when he registered 35 points with 6 V Bulls ahead of Dylan Fields who ended with 35 points and 5 V Bulls. The individual competition will conclude today (Thursday) with the 600, 900 and 1000 yards. The marksmen will rest on Friday and return on Saturday and Sunday for the team competition.
