Dr Ramsammy pointed out that significant effort is being channelled to make locals more alert and knowledgeable of non- communicable diseases and measures to prevent them.

“The health fair is to have Guyanese conscious of deadly diseases that may be non-communicable, and to get screened for these diseases at health centres, hospitals, clinics and other outlets (where) tests are done to detect and prevent these diseases. Some of the tests included HIV, tuberculosis, diabetes, blood pressure, breast cancer and other diseases,” the minister said.

He said the Caribbean Wellness Day is not just a one-off event but represents a month- long observance to promote healthy lifestyle practices.

According to him, lots more folks in Guyana are exercising, and this is a good sign that Guyanese are taking their health seriously.

The health fair featured several booths showcasing different health products, and some booths gave away samples to interested persons.
